N.H. Mom Who Killed Family Was Accused of Theft in 2016 — Years Before Alleged $660K Embezzlement: Report By Samira Asma-Sadeque

A New Hampshire mom accused of stealing $660,000 from her employer before killing her husband and two children in a murder-suicide reportedly had stolen from another employer years before.

The victims of the violence, Ryan Long, 48, his son Parker, 8, and daughter Ryan, 6, were found fatally shot in their Madbury, N.H., home on Aug. 18, the New Hampshire Attorney General’s office said at the time.

Police determined they were killed by the children’s mother, Emily Long, 34, who then died by suicide.

Soon after the news of the murders surfaced, Emily’s employer came forward with allegations that she had stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars from the business over the past two years, local WCVB reported at the time.

Derek Fisher, the owner of a local restaurant chain where Emily was an employee, told the outlet they came across “a lot of handwritten checks being deposited into her bank account.”

Now, further investigation by The Boston Globe has uncovered similar accounts of theft from Emily’s past.

In 2016, per the Globe, Emily was under investigation by Nantucket authorities after her then-employer — a brewpub on the island — accused her of theft and fired her and another employee amid suspicions of missing alcohol and cash, with about $11,000 unaccounted for.

She was arraigned on several check forgery charges upon her return to the U.S., but the case was dismissed after the pub shut down, per the Globe.

Fisher’s accusations against Emily did not progress far before she ended up carrying out the massacre in her home. Fisher had summoned her to his office to discuss the issue on Aug. 11.

She did not show up for the meeting, Fisher told the Globe. One week later, she killed three members of her family.

Leading up to the murders, Emily documented her family’s journey on TikTok — where she discussed grappling with the brain cancer diagnosis her husband just received.

She said sharing her feelings on TikTok was “cheaper” than therapy, and that she had been in a depressive “rut,” PEOPLE previously reported.

Emily left behind the couple’s toddler, who was found unharmed in the home.
