NEED TO KNOW
- Netflix’s Unknown Number: The High School Catfish chronicles a vicious, two-year-long case of cyberbullying that targeted a teenage couple, Owen McKenny and Lauryn Licari
- During the investigation, police suspected multiple people in the victims’ small Michigan town, including Owen’s cousin, Adrianna
- Though the FBI ultimately discovered that Lauryn’s mom, Kendra Licari, was the cyberbully, the suspicion has had lasting effects on Adrianna
Multiple people in the small town of Beal City, Mich., were accused of cyberbullying teens Owen McKenny and Lauryn Licari — including those closest to them.
The investigation eventually revealed that Lauryn’s mom, Kendra Licari, was the person who had been sending up to 50 cruel texts a day to her then-13-year-old daughter and her daughter’s ex-boyfriend for two years. But before that tragic discovery, some students pointed the finger at Owen’s cousin, Adrianna.
“There was just another group of girls that my cousin Adrianna was in, who didn’t have much drama,” Owen said in the 2025 Netflix documentary Unknown Number: The High School Cat Fish, which covered the intense cyberbullying case. “And I thought it could’ve been the quieter ones ’cause they could have been more techy.”
Adrianna’s introverted nature and history with volleyball teammate Khloe Wilson (who was also accused of cyberbullying Owen and Lauryn) made police take a closer look. Though she was ultimately cleared when Kendra pleaded guilty to two counts of stalking a minor in 2022, the teen’s life was never the same.
“It was very traumatic for her,” Jill McKenny, Owen’s mom and Adrianna’s aunt, told filmmakers. “I mean, you got called into the office to talk to a cop about a situation that she really didn’t know a lot about.”
She continued, “And, I mean, absolutely, there was no way that she was a part of this.”
So, where is Adrianna from Unknown Number: The High School Catfish now? Here’s everything to know about Owen’s cousin and why she was wrongly accused of cyberbullying.
Adrianna is Owen’s cousin
Like Owen and Lauryn, Adrianna also attended Beal City High School, which serves students from preschool through 12th grade. She played on the girls’ volleyball team with Khloe, Macy, and Sophie, who were also interviewed for the documentary.
The teen told Unknown Number filmmakers that she first learned about the messages from Owen, who had texted her and asked if she was also getting harassed. “I remember I told him, ‘Just send me the numbers. I’ll check and see if I have them in my contacts,’ ” Adrianna said in the documentary. “And I did not.”
She claimed that was the last she heard about the texts until the cops pulled her in for questioning.
A disturbing photo threw her under suspicion

At one point during the two-year ordeal, investigators learned that the teens’ stalker had sent them a photo of Christmas gifts Owen had received that year. Jill said in the documentary that the photo was “very alarming” because the only people who were at that holiday gathering were family.
“Sheriff [Mike] Main asked us who would have been potentially at the Christmas that also would have been in Owen’s class,” the mom told filmmakers. “The only family member that is in Owen’s class is his cousin Adrianna.”
The teen said she was in disbelief when Sheriff Main confronted her with the picture taken at the Christmas party. “I didn’t know how people thought I could do that,” she added.
Adrianna had a history with Khloe

Along with the Christmas photo, police flagged Adrianna over a prior dispute with Khloe, who believed she was being framed as Owen and Lauryn’s tormentor. Sophie claimed in the documentary that Adrianna made up a rumor in middle school that their group (which included Khloe) bullied and “threw carrots” at her.

Though Adrianna didn’t address the carrots incident in Unknown Number, she did tell filmmakers that Khloe and her friends “weren’t nice” to anyone on the volleyball team who wasn’t in their core group.
“It makes you feel like the entire world is going against you,” the teen said. “Like, it feels like there is no way out. There was no good days I had at that point.”
According to Adrianna, her mom noticed that her daughter was struggling and made a Facebook post, not “calling anybody out” but just asking for help to fix what her kid was going through. However, things did not improve, and the teen said that it led people to think she was trying to frame Khloe for how she treated her.
She said the whole ordeal made her afraid of the police

After learning about the history with Khloe and the Christmas photo, the police called Adrianna in for questioning. The teen described the experience as “intense” and said it made her wary of law enforcement.
“[Sheriff Main] was drilling me with questions,” she said in the documentary. “But it was also very hurtful, ’cause I was this quiet kid at school. I didn’t really talk to anybody. I wronged nobody. I was just kinda confused as to why they thought I would do that.”
She continued that when she walked into class after questioning, her classmates looked at her like she was guilty. “My opinion towards police officers has changed since then. Now, every time I pass a cop on the road, I am scared. Like, I’m scared of cops now,” she said.
Adrianna was also a victim of cyberbullying

Following her questioning with Sheriff Main, Adrianna said she received texts from an unknown number — presumably the same unknown number that had been harassing Owen and Lauryn.
One message read, “hey adrianna owen need ur help. we need get lo gone away from him.” Another said, “tell his parents lo a b—-. f—– up his life u hate her too.”
“I was terrified,” Adrianna said in the documentary. “As soon as I got the message, I dropped my phone. I cried. Like, I was bawling my eyes out … It was scary ’cause I didn’t think that it would ever happen to me.”
She lives a private life

Since Kendra’s 2022 arrest, Adrianna has lived a private life with no public social media accounts. She also hasn’t spoken out since Unknown Number premiered in August 2025.
Though she was sentenced to 19 months in prison, Kendra was released on parole in August 2024. According to the Michigan Department of Corrections, she will remain under supervision until February 2026 and is not permitted to see her daughter.
