Following in the wake of President Donald Trump, high-ranking government officials from both political parties are also condemning the shooting of Charlie Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
Vice President JD Vance also shared a post on X after the shooting, writing: “Say a prayer for Charlie Kirk, a genuinely good guy and a young father.”
President Donald Trump’s son Eric Trump , who has a been close to Kirk since his father first assumed office for the first time in 2017, wrote: “Charlie Kirk is a great friend and an amazing person! Lara, Luke, Carolina and I will be praying for him, his wife Erika and their 2 children.”
FBI Director Kash Patel promised swift action in his X post, writing: “We are closely monitoring reports of the tragic shooting involving Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected. Agents will be on the scene quickly and the FBI stands in full support of the ongoing response and investigation.”

A number of Democrats also shared posts on social media.
“I am deeply disturbed by the shooting in Utah. Doug and I send our prayers to Charlie Kirk and his family. Let me be clear: Political violence has no place in America. I condemn this act, and we all must work together to ensure this does not lead to more violence,” said former vice president Kamala Harris.
“The attack on Charlie Kirk is disgusting, vile, and reprehensible. In the United States of America, we must reject political violence in EVERY form,” wrote Gov. Gavin Newsom of California on X.
“The horrific shooting today at Utah Valley University is reprehensible. Political violence has absolutely no place in our nation,” wrote former house speaker Nancy Pelosi.
She continued: “All Americans should pray for Charlie Kirk’s recovery and hold the entire UVU community in our hearts as they endure the trauma of this gun violence.”
Video posted to social media from the event showed Kirk, 31, being struck by a single bullet fired as he began to address the crowd at Utah Valley University just before 12:25 p.m.
A spokesperson for Turning Point USA confirmed the shooting to PEOPLE but did not have any information on Kirk’s condition at the time.
The sooting occurred at an event being hosted by Turning Point USA, the nonprofit organization founded by Kirk that advocates for conservative politics on college campuses.
