13-Year-Old Arrested Following Death of 12-Year-Old Who Fell from Playground Equipment: Police By Becca Longmire

A teenager has been arrested after a 12-year-old boy died after falling off playground equipment at a park in England, police have said.

Logan Carter died following an incident at the Wharton Recreation Ground in Winsford, a town in Cheshire, U.K., on Friday, Aug. 29, around 6:11 p.m. local time, Cheshire Constabulary confirmed in an Aug. 31 new release.

Police are looking into whether Carter might have died after an e-bike was used to propel a merry-go-round in the park, Cheshire Constabulary said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.

A 13-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released under investigation, police said in the aforementioned statement.

A police spokesperson didn’t confirm a time that the teenager was arrested, but said it would have been “shortly after the incident occurred” in an email to PEOPLE.

Police said in the statement obtained by PEOPLE, “Investigations are ongoing and officers are currently exploring a number of lines of enquiry in order to fully establish the circumstances surrounding this incident.”

“As part of this, officers are exploring reports that an e-bike was used to propel a children’s roundabout in the park at around the time of the incident occurring,” they added.

Logan’s family said in a statement previously released by police, “Logan was a much-loved Son, Brother, Grandson, Great Grandson, Cousin and friend to many. He had an infectious personality and a beautiful smile.”

“Everyone wanted to be where Logan was. He was a little boy who was so full of life and wanted to make everyone laugh,” they added, per the release.  

“He made every day worth living. Logan was everyone’s therapy person, their calm and he will be missed more than we can ever put into words,” the family continued.

The message concluded, “We are taking comfort from the words of support we have received whilst we take time to come to terms with the untimely loss of our blue-eyed boy.”

Logan’s father, Rob Carter, shared a tribute to his son on Facebook on Saturday, Aug. 30, writing, “When I [woke] up on Friday, my little mate, I didn’t think that would be the last time I get to see you.”

“My heart [has] been ripped in two,” he continued.

A GoFundMe page set up to help raise money for the family had raised over $21,000 as of Tuesday, Sept. 2.
