Mass Shooting at Minneapolis Catholic School Leads to 'Horrific Violence' By Nicole Acosta 208

Police are responding to reports of an active shooter at a Catholic school and church in Minneapolis.

On Wednesday, Aug. 27, the City of Minneapolis said in a post on X that there was an “active shooter situation” at Annunciation Catholic School and confirmed the shooter was “contained.”

“There is no active threat to the community at this time,” the post read. “The shooter is contained. Stay away from the area to allow emergency personnel to help victims – W. 54th Street between Lyndale and Nicollet Ave.”

Families were being directed to reunite with children at the school.

According to Reuters and the Minnesota Star-Tribune, law enforcement sources said that three people, including the shooter, were dead. The Star-Tribune further reported that two children were killed.

Law enforcement sources told both CNN and NBC that the suspect died by suicide.

The Associated Press reported, citing law enforcement and a hospital, that at least five children are being treated for injuries.

Gov. Tim Walz earlier said on X that he had been briefed on the shooting.

“I’m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence,” Walz added.

The FBI said it is aware of the shooting and has agents en route to the church. ATF agents also responded to the scene.
