NEED TO KNOW

  • BigXthaPlug was arrested in the earlier morning of Aug. 22, according to Dallas County Jail records
  • The rapper was booked on charges of marijuana possession and unlawful possession of a firearm
  • The arrest came hours after the release of his studio album I Hope You’re Happy

Hours after BigXthaPlug held an album release party, the rapper was arrested and booked in a Dallas County jail.

According to Dallas County Jail records viewed by PEOPLE, the rapper born Xavier Landum, 27, was arrested on Friday, Aug. 22 and booked on charges of marijuana possession (less than two ounces) and unlawful possession of a firearm at 2:20 a.m., following the release of his highly anticipated studio album I Hope You’re Happy.

The night prior, the “Big Stepper” rapper revealed he was having an album release party at Cash Cow, a night club in Dallas, on Instagram.

A rep for BigX did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

I Hope You’re Happy features 11 tracks and collaborations with Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Darius Rucker, Shaboozey, Thomas Rhett, Ella Langley and more.

“This album’s my heart, my story — the love, the loss, the heartbreak, the grind,” he said in a press release.

BigX added, “I wanted people to feel it all with me, the highs, the lows, the real life that shapes you. I Hope You’re Happy is me mixing my urban roots with that country soul, tellin’ my story straight up, just me.”
