A 9-year-old Chicago boy was declared brain dead after he fell down the stairs at a train station during a fight between two men and the person he was with.
Elijah Flores, who has autism, was declared brain dead, his family said in a GoFundMe fundraiser.
CBS Chicago, citing police, reported that Elijah was exiting a CTA train with a 22-year-old family friend when two men got into a fight with the family friend.
One of the men reportedly threw an object at the family friend’s head, causing both him and Flores to fall down the steps, the outlet reported.
“Elijah is a true hero,” the GoFundMe organizer, who started the fundraiser to assist the boy’s mother, wrote. “Elijah is giving the ultimate gift by donating his heart, lungs, and other organs to those in desperate need. His selflessness will go on to save and change many lives.”

A second GoFundMe has also been started to help Elijah’s father with funeral costs.
“I am hoping to raise funds for funeral costs and expenses,” the organizer wrote. “Any unused funds will be put in a trust for Eli’s siblings.”
The Chicago Sun-Times reported that no one has yet been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
