Combination binocular/range finders are one of the handiest tools that a hunter can have, and here we’re taking a look at Vortex’s new Ranger 3000 10×42 model. The laser range finder binos feature three ranging modes, three targeting modes and a maximum reflective range of 3,000 yards (1,500 yards on game).

Vortex Ranger 3000 Binoculars

Ideal for big game, predator and archery hunters, Vortex says that the Ranger 3000 10×42 binos feature excellent optical quality and are optimized to deliver “excellent color fidelity, edge-to-edge sharpness and light transmission. That means you get the optical performance you need to pick game out of any environment, along with the power to precisely range it.” Other features include its red OLED display optimized for low light conditions and its compatibility with tripod adaptors. The Ranger is also waterproof, fogproof and shockproof thanks to the non-slip rubber protective external coating.

The three ranging mode options are:

  • Horizontal Component Distance (HCD): Displays the slope angle compensated distance to the target.
  • Line of Sight (LOS): Displays the actual line of sight range.
  • SCAN Feature: Displays continuous distance readings while panning across a landscape.

And the three target modes are:

  • Normal Mode: The standard mode providing the target’s range with the strongest range result. Recommended for most situations.
  • First Mode: Displays the closest distance when ranging. Ideal for ranging a smaller target in front of other larger or more reflective objects.
  • Last Mode: Displays the farthest distance when ranging. Ideal for ranging a specific target behind a group of objects like brush, trees, rocks, etc.
