Famous multitool manufacturer Leatherman has just unveiled an entire core lineup of knives. The new line includes three fixed blades and two folders, all fashioned from premium, current gen materials and with a spread of different design approaches.
Blazer
The Blazer is (obviously) one of the two folding models in the Leatherman Knives family, and the larger of the two – although not by much. Both folders seem intended to be sturdy everyday carry pieces, and the Blazer achieves that designation with a 3.15-inch drop point, made from MagnaCut steel – as, indeed, all of these Leatherman knives are.
The machined stainless steel handles house both a deep carry, loop over pocket clip and the Compression Wedge Lock, a patent-pending mechanism from Leatherman that is operated in a manner similar to that of a button lock. The Blazer weighs 3.7 oz.
Glider
The Glider carries forward a lot of the same elements as its sibling: stainless steel scales, Compression Wedge Lock, deep carry loop-over clip, and MagnaCut blade steel. Its blade shape, however, is a sheepsfoot, and is just a tad shorter at 3 inches even. Both the Glider and the Slider are opened with an elongated, oval thumb stud piece. The weigh on the Glider is listed as 3.7 oz. as well.
Pioneer
Moving on to the fixed blades, we’ll start with the biggest of the three, the Pioneer. This one is build as an outdoors hard user, albeit one with an unusual – for the genre (in the west at least) – Japanese-style tanto blade. Its 5 inches long, with a wide profile, and all the edge retention and stain resistance that MagnaCut brings to the table. A combo leather/Kydex sheath is included, and the Pionner weighs around 8.3 oz.
Trac
Another outdoors knife, the Trac scales the blade length down to 4.2 inches and trades in the tanto styling for a bushcraft-y drop point. All three of the Leatherman fixies have G-10 scales, but the Trac is notably the only model with an all-leather sheath. It weighs 6.4 oz.
Rustle
Last but not least we have the Rustle, as in, “Rustle up some grub.” This is a santoku food prep knife, with the wide, stout profile associated with the form. Its cutting edge is 4 inches in length, and there’s a nice deep groove underneath the blade to keep the fingers safe and the knuckles elevated during work. Worth mentioning is that the Rustle, like all of the Leatherman knives, comes in multiple different colors, even though we’ve chosen to show off the basic white models throughout this article. It weighs 4.3 oz.
