NEED TO KNOW

  • Sean “Diddy” Combs will be sentenced on Oct. 3
  • The defense and prosecution reached an agreement for the sentencing date
  • Combs was convicted on prostitution charges but acquitted on sex trafficking and racketeering charges

Sean “Diddy” Combs will be sentenced on Oct. 3 for his two prostitution convictions after his lawyers and the prosecution reached an agreement.

The rap mogul’s lawyers formally proposed the Oct. 3 sentencing in a letter to presiding Judge Arun Subramanian, noting prosecutors and probation officers at the Southern District of New York had agreed to the schedule.

The defense’s sentencing memorandum would be due on Sept. 19 and the government’s would be due a week later, per the memorandum, which was agreed to and signed by Subramanian shortly thereafter on July 8.

Lawyers for both sides participated in a brief telephone conference on Tuesday afternoon, with neither Combs nor Subramanian present.

Combs, who faced a nearly two-month long trial, was found guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, and acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges.

Combs’ attorneys sought his immediate release on $1 million bond, but the application was swiftly denied by Subramanian, after the government and Combs’ ex, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, requested he remain in detention until his sentencing, contending he was both a flight risk and a danger to those who had testified.

The government is seeking to sentence Combs to between 51 and 63 months in jail, while the defense is recommending a 21 to 27 month sentence. Combs will remain incarcerated at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center until sentencing, where he will likely get credit for over a year of time served.

During the trial, the jury heard testimony, often emotional, from multiple victims, most notably Ventura.

Ventura, the prosecution’s star witness, filed a lawsuit in 2023 accusing Combs of rape and long-term sexual abuse. The suit, which was settled a day after it was filed, sparked an avalanche of further lawsuits against Combs from several of his personal and professional associates.

Combs’ attorneys did not immediately return a request for comment from PEOPLE.
