NEED TO KNOW

  • Christian Bagley, 30, was fatally stabbed while walking home in Hereford, England, after visiting his daughter on Father’s Day in 2015
  • A decade later, his now-12-year-old daughter has written a plaintive letter seeking justice and remembering the father she never knew
  • West Mercia Police renewed their own appeal to the public, and a $27,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Bagley’s killer

A 12-year-old girl is pleading for justice in an open letter 10 years after her father was killed while walking home on Father’s Day in the U.K.

Christian Bagley, 30, was fatally stabbed twice on June 21, 2015, in Hereford, England, as he returned from a visit with his 19-month-old daughter.

In a handwritten letter released this week, the girl, now about to be a teenager, wrote: “Somebody taking my dad away from me when I was little is something that can never be replaced.”

“I was never given the chance to get to know him,” her letter, shared by the West Mercia Police, continued. “There’s an emptiness that should not be inside me because somebody murdered my dad. That void within myself will always be there.”

“I’ll never be able to spend Father’s Day, Christmas Day or a birthday with my dad,” Bagley’s daughter wrote.

As the 10th anniversary of his killing approaches, Crimestoppers is offering a roughly $27,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the unsolved case.

“While we have continued to investigate this case, a decade on it seems timelier than ever to appeal again to the public to help us get justice for Christian’s daughter, mother and all his family and friends,” West Mercia Police Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Lougher said in a statement.

“We hope this heartfelt message… will prick the conscience of someone carrying a burden of knowledge,” Lougher said.

“After 10 years, loyalties and allegiances may have changed,” he said. “We hope anyone who knows something will do the right thing and speak to us.”

Bagley was attacked on the Great Western Way footpath, also know as “The Lines,” according to BBC. He raced to nearby Charles Witts Avenue for help, but later died of his injuries.

The knife used to stab him remained embedded in his arm; police said the handle had broken off at the scene.

Despite multiple arrests in the case over the past decade, and although police have taken thousands of witness statements, the BBC reports, no suspect has been charged.

Bagley’s mother, Janette “Jan” Bagley, is also speaking out.

“Christian was the kindest person you would ever meet,” she said in her own statement. “If I was across the water, he’d have walked across it just to help us… he loved his daughter, his daughter was his life.”

“Please, somebody somewhere knows something. Tell me why you did this to my boy,” she said.

The police department is urging anyone with information to come forward via their Major Incident Public Portal or anonymously through Crimestoppers.
