A 5-year-old boy was left bruised and shaken after a man on a moped yanked a gold chain from his neck in a brazen daylight robbery in the Bronx, authorities said.
The child was walking along Marion Avenue near East 192nd Street in the Fordham section around 3:50 p.m. Saturday when the suspect pulled up on a motorized scooter, reached down and forcibly removed the jewelry before speeding off northbound, the NYPD’s press office told PEOPLE.
First responders treated the boy at the scene for redness and swelling, police said. He did not require hospitalization.

The stolen chain is estimated to be worth around $1,300, according to law enforcement sources who spoke with the New York Post.
Police described the suspect as wearing a multicolored hat, black jacket and black jeans. He fled on the moped, heading away from the scene before officers arrived.
No arrests had been made as of Monday morning, and the NYPD is urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over scooter- and moped-related street crime in New York City, where such vehicles are often unregistered and harder to track.
