The last Civivi knife we covered, the Buster, was a pretty sizeable piece of hardware. But it will be releasing alongside the Triptych, a compact everyday carry knife with an infusion of hard use toughness.

With its 2.97 inches of blade length, the Triptych is markedly smaller than the Buster, which will arrive with a 4.2-inch Wharncliffe blade. Its profile is an even blend between utility and ruggedness: the overall shape is a drop point, but the tip is has a thicker grind than the rest of the cutting edge, giving it some additional toughness where it counts. The 14C28N stainless it is fashioned from compliments this hybrid profile with solid performance in both daily and hard use roles.

You could make the argument that the Triptych is so named because it offers three different ways to open the knife. There’s the flipper tab, the thumb stud, and the button lock, which can be depressed while the blade is shut and then, with a flick of the wrist, it can be brought out into the open position. Obviously, option no. 3 is also the locking mechanism, and one that Civivi at this point has quite a bit of experience with.

The Triptych is one of Civivi’s no-nonsense in-house everyday carry pieces, following in the footsteps of their best-selling Elementum. To that end, the ergonomics are dead simple, with a handle design that would naturally put even a non-knife person’s fingers into the right place with minimal fuss. Each scale has a quadtych of four holes milled into it, and, if you look through these holes on the show side, you can see the underside of the pocket clip – which can be swapped to the front as well for lefties.

The Triptych is shipping in a month or so.
