Tell someone a Rick Hinderer creation is your “Grail knife,” and they are more likely to ask which model rather than why.
Hinderer Knives are made in the United States and garner praise from enthusiasts for their durability and handfeel. Hand assembly means focusing on one knife at a time, ensuring each is tuned for the best quality and performance.
Models like the XM-18 and Eklipse are often sought after, and each new batch of variants is anticipated. Even if you know Hinderer Knives already, let us introduce you to the blade brand’s newest crafted creations.

Jurassic-Slicer Hollow Ground — MagnaCut

The Jurassic is a mid-sized, hard-working folder that fills the gap between shorter and longer XM-18 options. But it’s its own knife, too. Hinderer prioritized power-cutting ergonomics for the Jurassic. The knife has a drop-edge design, so the cutting edge is lower in the push stroke style while cutting aggressively. The back of the handle has a higher back for comfort and confidence in hand.
This knife also works with the brand’s Hinderer Modular Backspacer System (HMBS). Users can swap out the backspacer with just an Allen wrench. This is another RHK hollow-ground blade, as denoted by the “H” on it.
Note: The next wave of Jurassic knives will be available in a few different finishes.

Eklipse-Skinny Slicer Hollow Ground — MagnaCut (Coming Soon)

This is a slimmed-down version of the Eklipse folding knife for EDC carry. It’s the same size as the regular Eklipse, just thinner.
Compared to other blades of his, Rick Hinderer designed the Eklipse with a more linear approach to handle and blade metrics for a more centered grip in the hand. His take is that this design allows for a light and comfortable feel when using the knife for any task.
The knife has double-finger grooves and a sloped underside of the handle for ergonomics. Its thumb ramp and jimping are sized to provide a solid grip when using the knife in a fencing-style grip.
Additionally, this knife’s slicer grind is slightly hollow to improve its cutting abilities. While the flat-ground slicer has always been thin behind the edge compared to the Spearpoint- and Spanto-style blades, the added slight hollow improves the angles of the edge without sacrificing the blade’s sectional density and durability.
