Fla. Nurse Has License Suspended After Allegedly Being Caught Sexually Abusing Stepson, 15, by Child's Father

A Florida woman has had her medical license suspended months after she was accused of sexually abusing her 15-year-old stepson.

Alexis Von Yates, 34, of Ocala, was arrested on Nov. 6, 2024 after being accused of allegedly engaging in “unlawful sexual activity” with her teenage stepson — who had been visiting his father for the summer in Florida — in July 2024, per a Marion County Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.

The document stated the pair allegedly had sex without a condom, and police had received “an anonymous tip” about the alleged sexual activity on July 30, 2024. The tip “included information that the [alleged] child victim’s father had walked in on the incident,” the affidavit stated.

According to the Florida Department of Health’s online license verification records, Yates — who was a registered nurse — has now had her single-state license suspended, per an Emergency Suspension Order filed on Friday, April 25. The records stated her license had been issued in January 2016.

“Nurses are placed in a position of trust; therefore, it is imperative that they demonstrate good judgment and good moral character,” the state’s order read, per Ocala-news.com. 

“Ms. Yates’ decision to [allegedly] engage in sexual activity with a minor child and/or her decision to allow a child to engage her in oral and penetrative sex indicates that she lacks the good judgment and moral character necessary to be a registered nurse,” reads the state’s order, the outlet noted.

The publication reported that a proceeding seeking the “formal discipline” of the suspect’s license will be “promptly instituted and acted upon” by the state shortly, citing the order. The outlet also stated Yates could file a petition for review.

The Florida Department of Health didn’t immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for additional information.

Per online Marion County Clerk of Court and Comptroller’s Office records, Yates is facing a charge of sexual battery on a person 12 to 18 years of age by a person in familial custody. Ocala-news.com reported her attorney had pleaded not guilty to the charge on her behalf in the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County on December 10.

Online Marion County Sheriff’s Office records stated Yates had been released on Nov. 7, 2024, after posting a $10,000 bond.

Per the arrest affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, Yates and the alleged child victim had been “relaxing” and “playing a video game” together while his father was working late on the evening of the alleged abuse, before they “decided to watch a movie.”

The suspect allegedly spoke to the teenager about how “horny” she was, per the affidavit, claiming “she had not had sex in two weeks.”

“He recalled that the suspect had been making sexual jokes for approximately a week leading up to this incident, continuously saying how ‘horny’ she was,” the document stated.

According to the affidavit, after the alleged abuse began, the suspect said, “Ah man I wish you were 18, because you’re not old enough.” The alleged victim and the suspect had sex on the couch, according to the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, the suspect said when confronted by the child’s father that his son looked just like him “when he was younger,” the alleged child victim reportedly overheard.

Elsewhere in the arrest affidavit, the alleged child victim claimed the suspect had stuck her tongue out at him while eating whipped cream in the week leading up to the alleged abuse, as well as stating the pair went to the gym together before she allegedly said, “I bet everyone thought you were my little toy boy.”

The documents also stated the teenager had called the suspect after his father had taken him to his grandparents’ home after the incident. She allegedly told the teenager she wished his father “had not caught them.”

The Florida Department of Health, the Marion County Clerk of Court and Comptroller’s Office and a law firm representing Yates didn’t immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for additional information.
