Back to the Future promised us hoverboards by now, but this all-terrain skateboard-like device may tide us over.

The Ungoverned Vendetta is not really an off-road skateboard, as its makers suggest. Instead of wheels, the Vendetta rides on two sets of treaded tracks like you’d see on a snowmobile or a tank.

However, it does seem to ride and steer like a skateboard or wakeboard. You’ll take a sideways approach to whatever terrain you’re tackling. That means it requires balance and likely takes some time to adjust to how it moves, like most other active pursuits.

To that effect, Ungoverned offers a hearty yet reasonable disclaimer: “The Vendetta does not do all the thinking and balancing for you, you will require balance, skill, judgement, flexibility, coordination, muscle core, a proper childhood playing outdoors and ideally in dirt.”

All-Terrain ‘Skateboard’

The Vendetta is a testament to an inventor hell-bent on turning a concept into reality — and an eye on expansion. The website mentions lights are in the works and could be available as an add-on for retrofitting existing orders. And in one of the brand’s videos, we see a tester swap out the front set of tread for a pair of skis and a snowboard.

Like a lot of toys and inventions, the Vendetta is what users make of it. Beyond short clips of the Vendetta conquering obstacles, we enjoyed the fun use case scenario of riding it to the local fishing hole.

Seeing the Vendetta in action may bring to mind the OneWheel, but with more off-road prowess. And like the OneWheel, it was aimed at an initial audience of fun commutes, as well as sports and rec, but has drawn interest from businesses seeking lightweight remote access vehicles. The Vendetta has enough torque and power to help tow gear, as we saw in the snow-test video.

Ungoverned Vendetta

The specs of the Ungoverned Vendetta read like an e-bike.

It has a top speed of 31 mph and a battery range of 13 miles, and it comes with a water-resistant remote with an LCD display of speed, battery percentage, and more.

The batteries and parts have an IP67 rating, meaning it is dustproof and able to withstand temporary immersion in water. The batteries are Samsung lithium-ion with a 3.5-hour charge time and have an onboard Battery Management Systems to regulate their power during use, charging, and travel. While we can’t find any numbers on the average run time, they do sell swappable spare batteries ($1,461).

The Vendetta’s All Terrain tracks come in several colors as well to customize the look. They are abrasion resistant and operate in temperatures from -76 degrees up to 140 degrees F. The Ungoverned Vendetta costs $4,604 and comes with a 2-year warranty.
