A shocking Christmas Day shooting at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport that left four people hospitalized reportedly stemmed from a fight between a teenage couple, according to police.

The shooting unfolded at a restaurant near a security checkpoint at around 9:40 p.m. on Dec. 25, AZFamily reported.

The Arizona Republic, citing a lengthy police report, reported that the shooting was preceded by the family of a 16-year-old girl showing up at the airport restaurant after hearing that she had allegedly been assaulted by her 18-year-old boyfriend.

The report stated that the situation turned violent after the family confronted the boyfriend, who allegedly shot his girlfriend’s father, stepmother and stepbrother, the paper reported.

The boyfriend was also allegedly stabbed by the stepbrother, according to the Republic, citing the police report.

The paper further reported that the 16-year-old and her boyfriend were working together at the restaurant when a female coworker overheard them arguing and subsequently heard the boyfriend hit the girl, according to police.

The coworker reportedly then texted the teen’s stepbrother, who told the coworker he and his family were coming to the airport and instructed her not to alert the pair.

The teen ultimately did get a heads-up about her family’s impending arrival and gave her boyfriend her gun for protection, police reportedly said.

During the alleged confrontation, the girl sprayed her stepbrother with Clorox, and her father tried to grab the boyfriend, police said, according to the paper.

The boyfriend then allegedly pointed the gun and eventually pulled the trigger after he was pulled down by his hair, according to the police report.

The girl’s stepmother was shot in the torso, police reportedly said. The stepbrother was shot in the leg while the father’s arm was grazed.

Police reportedly said a trail of blood was found near the elevators.

The Republic reported that police recommended charges for the six people involved — the two teens, the father, the stepmother, stepbrother and the coworker. The case against the boyfriend was reportedly sent back to police by prosecutors.
