An Oregon mother and her three young children were found dead in their home in what police believe is an isolated incident.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said it is not yet releasing the identities of the deceased, who were found in a building attached to a home in Cornelius, Ore., on Tuesday, April 8.

Authorities did not say how the 37-year-old mother or her children, aged 2, 5 and 7, died. The sheriff’s office says detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit are assisting the investigation. There is no danger to the public, authorities say.

“Our community has been shaken to its core,” Cornelius Police Chief Mitch Coley said, according to ABC News. “While the investigation is still ongoing and details are limited, I want to acknowledge the heartbreak this brings to the families involved and our entire city.”

“This is a deeply emotional time for everyone: neighbors, friends, and the first responders who were called to the scene,” he continued. “I ask that we all come together with compassion and care.”

The Oregonian reported that dispatch records show that a man called 911 after he returned to his home in the area and found the bodies.

Neighbors told the paper that the family had recently returned to the home after being displaced by a fire.
