Virginia Giuffre Allegedly Broke Family Violence Restraining Order Weeks Before Claiming She Has Days to Live

Virginia Giuffre has been accused of breaching a family violence restraining order and is due to face the court just days after claiming she didn’t have long to live due to injuries sustained in a vehicle crash.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, March 30, Giuffre — who previously accused late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and Prince Andrew of sexual abuse — shared a photo of herself in the hospital covered in bruises, saying she had gone into kidney renal failure and that she had four days to live.

Giuffre is now set to face Joondalup Magistrates Court on April 9 after allegedly breaching a family violence restraining order in the northern Perth suburb of Ocean Reef on Feb. 2, PEOPLE can confirm.

Giuffre’s first court appearance following the alleged breach was on March 14, and no plea was entered, PEOPLE understands. The upcoming court case is set to take place at 9:30 a.m. local time and it’s not known if Giuffre will attend.

Joondalup Magistrates Court didn’t immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for additional information.

The news comes after Giuffre’s family said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE on Tuesday, April 1, that she had meant to share her post about the crash on a private social media account.

“Virginia thanks everyone for the outpouring of love and support,” the statement said. “She is overwhelmed with gratitude. Today she remains in serious condition while receiving medical care.”

“On March 24, in rural Western Australia, a school bus hit the car in which she was riding,” the statement continued. “The police were called but said that there was no one available to come to the scene. They asked if anyone was injured and suggested that if they were, they should make their way to the hospital.”

Giuffre’s family went on to say that the bus driver had a bus full of “distraught children” and left the scene before later filing a police report, and that Giuffre was bruised and returned home.

“Virginia’s condition worsened and she was admitted to the hospital,” her family said. “Concerning her Instagram post, Virginia thought that she had posted on her private Facebook page. Virginia and her family thank everyone for their concern.”

Western Australia Police told PEOPLE that a crash had been reported 12 miles north of Perth and involved a bus and a car. Police described the crash as “minor” and said there were “no reported injuries.” They added, “We do not confirm the name[s] of people involved in incidents and would not provide any details.”

Giuffre, who is originally from California, purchased a $1.9 million home in Ocean Reef with her husband of 22 years, Robert Giuffre, in December 2020, per news.com.au. The pair share two teenage sons and a daughter aged 14.

In an Instagram post shared on March 22, Giuffre said she “misses” her children “very much” and that they had been “poisoned with lies,” suggesting a possible separation from Robert, who is her children’s father.

Giuffre previously said she was sex trafficked by Epstein after being recruited by Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a prison sentence following a sex trafficking conviction. Epstein died by suicide in jail in 2019.

Giuffre has alleged that she was sexually assaulted by Prince Andrew as a teenager, a claim he has denied. She and the prince reached an out-of-court settlement in 2022 after she filed suit the year prior.
