A 23-mile pursuit in California led to the arrest of three individuals who allegedly stole mail from over 100 homes.
According to a press release from the Clovis Police Department, the chase began just after 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, after an officer on patrol near the Fowler and Alluvial avenues noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area.
After police tried to pull the vehicle over, it quickly sped away, leading officers to chase it down 23 miles to southwest Fresno, police said.
Officers called for assistance from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), who used spike strips to deflate the vehicle’s tires.
This helped end the pursuit near California and Orange avenues, where an officer from the Clovis Police Department used a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) maneuver.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs website, the PIT maneuver is a “technique used by law enforcement personnel to force a fleeing vehicle to abruptly turn 180 degrees, causing the vehicle to stall and stop.”
A photo of the vehicle attached to the press release showed the dark-colored car with two large bumps to its right side and flat tires.
After the PIT maneuver was done, the three suspects “immediately got out and ran” but were caught by officers from the Clovis and Fresno police departments, who were “a short distance away,” police said.

While none of the suspects were injured during the incident, one officer from the Clovis Police Department was treated and released for a minor injury to their hand, the press release explained.
Before the vehicle driven by the suspects was towed for evidence, police said they found it to be filled with mail from over 100 addresses in Clovis.
A photo attached to the press release shows a table full of mail, including a pile of coupons, multiple envelopes and a package from Amazon Pharmacy.
The suspects were identified as Yer Vue, 42, and Amanda Lizarraga, 35, of Fresno, and Sombat Vang, 30, of Clovis.
